By now we have all heard of the "Internet of Things" thrown around in conversation but what exactly does IoT mean and what impact could it have on you?
IoT is an extension of internet connectivity into physical devices and everyday objects. Embedded with electronics, internet connectivity and other forms of hardware, these devices can communicate and interact with others over the internet - as well as being able to be remotely monitored and controlled.
IoT devices have the potential to not only impact innovation and the way we work, but also our everyday lives. In fact, there are now more IoT devices in the world than humans. Companies invest in new technologies to streamline processes and cut expenses. Consumers buy smart home appliances and wearables to save time and improve their quality of life.
You are most likely already using IoT devices without even realising it. Anything from your voice controlled speaker, home security system or even smart watch are all internet connected devices.
The IoT system operates on three levels:
Hardware: products or objects enhanced with firmware/ embedded systems and smart sensors
Infrastructure: software that receives, analyses and stores sensor data
Apps: smartphone, PC or tabled applications that connect hardware to the infrastructure and enable the user to manage smart gadgets
These three components must be seamlessly integrated in order for a product to operate successfully. Many consultancy companies specialise in only one or two of these aspects, meaning developers need to manage the three steps and find different companies that specialise in each area.
Right from idea generation through to production and testing, Tussock Innovation has specialist teams to manage the entire development process. Our goal is to fast track IoT design, whether we are creating a low-cost remote sensor or providing two way connectivity for high value assets.
We focus on creating elegant solutions with a focus on usability and cutting edge innovation. We have developed more that 40 unique hardware, firmware and app products for leading New Zealand companies. If you are looking for a technology partner with a proven track record, then get in touch.
